Machine Learning and AI
Astronomy needs and produces vast amounts of data. With the advent of the Square Kilometre Array, data rates will exceed Tb per second. There is a clear need to be able to not only handle these data rates, but to produce robust algorithms that can be applied to the data without the need for human intervention. Machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques can help us tackle these data and provide new methods for analysis.
Such approaches are not limited to astronomy and astrophysics. AI and machine learning finds ready application to diverse fields including but not limited to healthcare, medicine, criminology, psychology, image processing, defense, and beyond.
